Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ordering from The Fragrance Drawer, from choosing your perfect decant size to how your order is prepared and packaged with love. β‘
π What is a fragrance decant?
A fragrance decant is a smaller amount of fragrance carefully transferred from an authentic full size bottle into one of our atomisers.
It gives you the opportunity to properly wear and experience a fragrance before committing to the cost of a full bottle.
Our decants are not miniature designer bottles and do not come in the fragrance brandβs original packaging. Each fragrance is decanted to order into a The Fragrance Drawer atomiser in the size you select.
All of our decant sizes have a spray mechanism. We do not use dabber vials.
π Are your fragrances authentic?
Absolutely. Authenticity is incredibly important to us.
All fragrance samples and decants from The Fragrance Drawer are hand decanted from authentic, genuine fragrances sourced from trusted retailers and suppliers.
The Fragrance Drawer is an independent fragrance decant retailer and is not affiliated with the fragrance brands we stock.
π How many sprays are in each decant?
The number of sprays will always vary depending on the atomiser, how firmly it is pressed and the amount of fragrance released with each spray. The following numbers are estimates only.
- 1ml Glass Atomiser
Approximately 10 to 15 sprays, with very fine mist pumps sometimes providing a few more.
Perfect for 1 to 3 full wear tests or trying a fragrance on both skin and paper before deciding whether you love it.
- 2ml Glass Atomiser
Approximately 20 to 30 sprays.
A great discovery size that generally allows around 5 to 10 full wear applications.
- 3ml Glass Atomiser
Approximately 30 to 45 sprays.
Perfect when you want a little more time to get to know a fragrance, with approximately 7 to 15 full wear applications.
- 5ml Glass Atomiser
Approximately 50 to 75 sprays.
A beautiful size for fragrances you already know you enjoy, giving you plenty of wears without committing to a full bottle.
- 10ml Glass Atomiser
Approximately 100 to 150 sprays.
Perfect for fragrances you love, travelling, keeping in your handbag or enjoying regularly.
- 15ml Glass Atomiser
Approximately 150 to 225 sprays.
Available in selected fragrances and perfect when you have found something you really love. Depending on how heavily you spray, this can provide around 1 to 2 months of regular wear.
- 30ml Glass Atomiser
Approximately 300 to 450 sprays with a fine mist atomiser.
Available in selected fragrances for those scents you simply cannot get enough of.
β¨Please remember that spray counts are estimates. Different atomisers can release different amounts of fragrance with each spray, and heavier mist mechanisms may provide fewer total sprays.β¨
All decants are carefully measured using syringes for accuracy and consistency.
π Which decant size should I choose?
If you are discovering a fragrance for the first time, 1ml or 2ml is perfect for properly testing it on your skin.
If you already think youβll love it, 3ml or 5ml gives you plenty of opportunities to wear and enjoy it.
If youβve found an obsession but arenβt ready to purchase the full bottle, 10ml is your new best friend. β‘
For selected fragrances, 15ml and 30ml sizes are also available when a little decant simply isnβt going to be enough!
Β
π Are your atomisers glass or plastic?
We use glass atomisers (spray) across all of our standard decant sizes and always aim to have plenty available.
On very rare occasions, if we unexpectedly sell out of a particular glass atomiser size or experience a delay with a supplier shipment, a high quality plastic atomiser may be used so your order is not unnecessarily delayed.
Our preferred atomisers have gold metal tops. Occasionally you may receive a clear, black or silver variation if our supplier has sold out of our preferred style.
The atomiser may look a little different from time to time, but the beautiful fragrance inside remains exactly the same. β‘
π Are the fragrances decanted into the original designer bottles?
No. Our decants are supplied in The Fragrance Drawer atomisers, not the fragrance brandβs original bottle, travel spray or packaging.
The product you are purchasing is the authentic fragrance itself, carefully decanted from the original bottle into the atomiser size you select when ordering.
If you select 5ml of a fragrance, for example, you are purchasing 5ml of the authentic fragrance in a The Fragrance Drawer atomiser, not the fragrance brandβs own 5ml miniature or travel bottle.
π Why doesnβt my decant look completely full?
Our atomisers are sized by their liquid capacity, not by how high the liquid sits inside the bottle.
A small amount of space is required at the top for the spray mechanism and does not mean your decant has been underfilled.
Every decant is measured using a syringe when it is prepared to ensure you receive the amount you ordered.
π Are orders prepared in advance?
No. Your fragrances are decanted fresh to order.
I am the only person who decants and packages your fragrance orders. Every atomiser is filled and labelled by me, every order is carefully packaged by me, and even the little gifts tucked inside are personally selected by me.
This is incredibly important to me because it ensures the same love, care and consistency across every order that leaves The Fragrance Drawer.
π How long will my order take to prepare?
Please allow up to 72 hours for your order to be prepared before dispatch.
The Fragrance Drawer was created to share the love of fragrance, not to become a mass produced production line. I want every order to receive the same attention and care, even as our little fragrance community continues to grow.
I promise, the extra love and care is worth it. xx
π What measures do you take to help prevent my decant from leaking?
We take extra precautions with every decant to help minimise the risk of leaking during transit.
The glass atomisers we source have a rubber O ring inside the lid to help create a secure seal. I then add an additional layer of protection by applying plumbing thread seal tape around the atomiser thread before securely closing the lid.
As a final precaution, I apply electrical tape around the outside of the lid and atomiser before your fragrance is packaged for shipping.
While no atomiser can be guaranteed completely leak proof, particularly with changes in temperature, pressure and handling during transit, these extra steps significantly reduce the risk of those frustrating little leaks.
It takes me a little longer to prepare each order, but protecting your beautiful fragrances and making sure as much of your decant as possible arrives exactly where it belongs is absolutely worth the extra care. β‘
π When is checkout open?
Checkout is open Wednesday through Monday.
Checkout closes every Monday at 9pm Darwin time (ACST).
The website remains open for browsing all day Tuesday, but checkout is closed while I tackle the behind the scenes admin, restocking and all those necessary but not nearly as fun jobs that keep The Fragrance Drawer running smoothly.
Checkout reopens at 12am Wednesday Darwin time (ACST).
Our post runs still happen daily, so your beautifully packed orders continue heading out the door throughout the week. β‘
Does Express Post mean my order is prepared immediately?
No. Express Post refers to the Australia Post delivery service used once your order has been prepared and dispatched. It does not mean Express Processing.
We print your Express Post shipping label at the same time as we customise and print the labels for your individual decants. This is when you will receive your shipping notification and tracking number, but it does not mean your parcel has been lodged with Australia Post just yet.
With so many little decants being prepared in our studio, your shipping label is attached to your order from the very beginning. This keeps your fragrances, labels and order details together throughout the entire preparation process and allows me to carefully check everything against your packing slip before your order is beautifully packaged and sent on its way. β‘
Please allow up to 72 hours for your order to be prepared. Orders are prepared in the order they are received, and selecting Express Post does not move an order ahead of others or change our preparation time.
Express Post simply means that once Iβve finished preparing and checking your order, we use the fastest Australia Post service available to get it on its way to you.
Express Shipping gives me the time I need to maintain the quality, care and consistency I want across every order, while helping cut down the delivery time once your beautiful fragrances leave us. β‘
π How can I track my order?
Once your order has been packed and your shipping label has been created, you will receive tracking information so you can follow your beautiful little fragrance parcel on its way to you.
Please keep in mind that tracking can sometimes take a little time to update after a parcel has been lodged with Australia Post.
π Do you accept returns or refunds on decants?
Because our fragrances are individually decanted and prepared to order, we are unable to accept returns or provide refunds for change of mind.
Please make sure you understand before ordering that you are purchasing an authentic fragrance decant supplied in a The Fragrance Drawer atomiser, not the fragrance brandβs original bottle, miniature, travel spray or packaging.
Every decant is individually packaged and secured in a ziploc bag with aΒ silver tamper proof seal before leaving The Fragrance Drawer. This seal provides assurance that your decant has remained exactly as it was when it left our care.
I stand 100% behind the authenticity, contents and preparation of every decant while this seal remains intact. Once the tamper proof seal has been removed or broken, I can no longer verify that the fragrance has remained in the same condition as when it left The Fragrance Drawer.
If you believe there is an issue with your order, please contact me before removing the silver seal so I can assist you.
This does not exclude or limit any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law if a product is faulty, damaged, incorrect or not as described.
That says exactly what you need without planting any ideas about why you're protecting yourself. It also avoids saying that removing the seal automatically eliminates all responsibility, which could conflict with Australian Consumer Law.
π What happens if there is a problem with my order?
Please contact us if something arrives damaged, leaking, incorrect or there is another genuine issue with your order.
I put an enormous amount of care into preparing and packaging every order, but if something has gone wrong, please reach out with your order number and photos where appropriate so I can look into it for you.
π Why sample a fragrance before buying the full bottle?
Because fragrance is incredibly personal.
A perfume can smell completely different on your skin than it does on a paper strip, on somebody else or even in different weather.
A decant gives you enough fragrance to wear it properly, experience the opening and drydown, test its longevity and decide whether you genuinely love it before investing in the full bottle.
It is exactly why The Fragrance Drawer exists.
