Coup de Pied by Odette Parfum Co. is one of those beautiful little US indie finds that are stunningly beautiful and it is easy to understand why everyone wants to get their hot little hands on a sample.

It opens with soft mimosa blossom before melting into Île Flottante, a dreamy French dessert of pillowy meringue floating on vanilla custard, wrapped in smooth blonde musk. Sweet, creamy and comforting, but definitely not your typical vanilla gourmand.

Then comes the good bit. Vanilla, sandalwood and honeyed incense settle into warm olibanum, Tolu balsam and amber resin, giving all that creamy sweetness a smoky, resinous edge. Think honeycomb candy, velvety vanilla and French dessert with incense quietly burning in the background. A little sweet, a little smoky, a little unusual and absolutely delicious.
